According to HITC Sport, Sheffield United are willing to let James Hanson leave Bramall Lane this season, just 12 months after his arrival in South Yorkshire.

Chris Wilder bought Hanson last season from Bradford City, with the rangy striker making 13 appearances in League One, scoring once and helping the Blades storm to the title.

However, this season, the 30-year-old has found his opportunities extremely limited at Bramall Lane, with Wilder using the likes of Billy Sharp and Leon Clarke, with Clayton Donaldson and Ched Evans waiting in the wings to step in.

Wilder has limited Hanson to just two appearances across all competitions, with just one of those coming in the Championship, with the Sheffield United boss putting faith in a select group of players to mount their promotion push.

Hanson’s agent has confirmed that a number of clubs have made contact over the former Bradford City striker, who has 18 months remaining on his contract at Bramall Lane.

Prior to his move to Sheffield United, Hanson built up an excellent reputation in the lower leagues with Bradford, who he made over 250 league appearances for, scoring an impressive 77 goals.

The Verdict

It is little surprise to hear that Hanson is edging closer to the exit door at Bramall Lane, with his opportunities in Sheffield United’s promotion push looking extremely limited.

Hanson was brought in to aid last season’s promotion push, which was a success.

However, others are ahead of the 30-year-old now and a move looks inevitable.

The experienced striker won’t be short of options in January, with Hanson still more than capable of doing a job in the lower leagues.
