Sheffield United could terminate the contract of midfielder Dean Hammond, according to the Sheffield Telegraph.

Hammond, who spent most of last season on loan in the Steel City, utilised a clause in that agreement entitling him to a permanent contract.

It outraged many fans when it was announced, and new boss Chris Wilder put him straight on the transfer list.

The 33-year old, who signed from Leicester City, could now be asked to take a pay-out should a buyer not be found, as he is one of the club's highest earners. It is that which annoys many fans, that a player that has done little is payed so much.

Hammond has made over 100 appearances for both Brighton & Hove Albion and Southampton, but seems to be less popular further north. He has also made 56 appearances for Colchester United.

Sheffield United fans will be hoping Chris Wilder can revitalise the Blades next season, after what has been a disappointing few seasons for the red and white of Sheffield.
