Sheffield United have been offered the chance to sign Sampdoria midfielder Ronaldo Vieira, according to the Athletic.

Vieira is no stranger to Yorkshire having made 71 appearances during his time at Leeds United.

The 22-year-old made 34 appearances in the Championship under Garry Monk in 2016/17, before featuring 28 times the following campaign under Thomas Christiansen.

Vieira moved to Sampdoria in the summer of 2018, though, moving to the Italian side for a reported £6million fee.

The combative midfielder has since failed to impress at Sampdoria, making 44 appearances for the club and making only five appearances on loan at Hellas Verona last term.

Vieira is now looking for a fresh start and has been offered to a number of clubs, and according to the Athletic, Sheffield United are one of those.

The Blades are yet to add to their squad since the arrival of Slavisa Jokanovic, but they will be keen to strengthen their playing squad ahead of the new season.

The Verdict

This would certainly be a bit of an interesting signing.

Vieira hasn't really lived up to the expectations that were placed upon his shoulders after impressing at Leeds, and the move to Italy hasn't really worked out.

I always think clubs should be cautious when they are offered the chance to sign players, as more often than not, it's agents trying to drum up interest.

But he brings plenty of mobility and drive in midfield, and that could work out perfect for the Blades. They already have John Fleck and Ollie Norwood, but they probably do need more depth.
