Sheffield United's season is ending with something of a whimper, with consecutive defeats to Birmingham City and Preston North End putting a dampener on what has otherwise been a good season at Bramall Lane.

The Blades, led by manager Chris Wilder, will be hoping for a summer of transfer activity and resolution in the boardroom, with unrest at the top seemingly affecting on the pitch matters for Wilder.

However, despite the obvious need for some more quality to come in through the door, the Blades squad has plenty of players who simply haven't cut it at Championship level and could well do with being moved on by the club.

Manager Wilder will know this, and he will surely have his eyes on who needs to go and come in at the club over the summer months.

We at FLW think that there is at least THREE Sheffield United players who could be shown the exit door, and we've taken a look at those players...

Ricky Holmes

A January signing, things have just not worked out for the former Northampton and Charlton man, and he was left out of this weekend's squad to face North End.

Holmes, who is a player with tremendous ability, just does not seem to have fitted in and adapted to the ways in which Wilder wants his team to play, and a move out this summer would not be a big surprise.

Plenty of clubs will be willing to take on Holmes, and he is a player who the Blades will be able to command some sort of fee for.

Ched Evans

Ched Evans

It was always going to be a gamble for the Blades signing former striker Evans, and a season of injuries and not looking like being up to Championship level hasn't done anything to appease that thought.

It would be very surprising to see Evans stay with United beyond this season, and a move back towards League One would appear to be the most likely option for the Welshman.

Samir Carruthers

When Carruthers signed last season many thought he would be a vital cog in the Championship for United, but things just haven't worked out for the former MK Dons man.

Way down in the pecking order Wilder, a move away in January almost came off, but he remains at Bramall Lane, and will surely be moved on this summer.

Plenty of clubs in the third tier will be keen on adding Carruthers to the squad, but it remains to be seen if anyone is willing to take the punt on the midfielder.
