Sheffield United defied expectation this season, but perhaps the top six has been revealed as a step too far for Chris Wilder's ambitious side.

They've strode into the top half of the table with ease, claiming the title of 'Pride of Sheffield' in the process by finishing above Wednesday. The future looks very bright at Bramall Lane, even if a top-flight return isn't on the cards this time around.

Carrying momentum from one season to the next is perhaps the easy part, the real challenge comes when they have to repeat their heroics next time out. Can they keep the positivity flowing? Will they be a success despite no longer being the surprise package?

There is every chance they will be a top half force again next season, but they'll need to make some adjustments if they're going to keep pressing hard. There's going to be players leaving and crucially, there must be a steady influx of new faces better than their current offering.

Surely, the first priority must be a centre forward who scores a lot of goals, so with that in mind we think they need to bring this ONE player in before they even consider moving on. After that, we suggest a further TWO players who they would be foolish not to sign.

Wyke has had a great season at Bradford City and whenever there's a regular goal scorer in the third tier, he's going to be linked with other clubs.

Wyke is a bullish centre forward, not only a goal scorer but a tough character with lots of personality and application.

Leon Clarke needs a regular partner or maybe even a more prolific replacement and Wyke is amongst the best in League One. He won't cost as much as Dack or Marriot, but he'll add value to Wilder's group.

Long would be coming in alongside Wyke to add real depth and strength to the centre forward selection at Bramall Lane. After all, Clayton Donaldson is likely to move on meaning they'll need to bring in a couple of fresh faces.

Long has extensive England youth honours and was schooled at Everton. He's on loan at Northampton Town from Burnley and he has nine goals in 36 outings.

He's surely ready to step up and at 23-years old represents a big investment for the future if Wilder could get the right deal.

27-year Enda Stevens has looked off colour in recent weeks, so perhaps Wilder should be looking to attract some healthy competition on the left side of his defence.

O'Connor has a similar background to Stevens, having progressed through Irish football before arriving in England. He's had a good season on the left side of Fleetwood's defence and may well be available for transfer from parent club Preston.
