Sheffield United are something of an enigma this season.
If you look closely at their summer business, it appeared average at best.
David McGoldrick wasn’t an inspiring signing, maybe John Egan was better but Brentford didn’t seem too fussed at letting him go.
Even some Blades fans were questioning whether or not they had made the right moves.
Here we are at the second international break with the Blades sat proudly at the top of the Championship, hoping for a sustainable assault on a Premier League spot.
It’s a remarkable show of Chris Wilder’s ability to mould a winning side from players who may not appeal to others. Last season, Leon Clarke looked like a world beater despite being the wrong side of 30. Billy Sharp continues to defy the ageing process and at the back, the Blades are as good as any side outside the top flight.
If he can continue to take average-looking players at turn them into a finely honed machine, there’s no reason why they won’t keep knocking on the door of the top flight.
Here’s three from League Two they should take a look at.
