Sheffield United midfielder could be set for move as Holmes deal nears completion

Sheffield United midfielder Samir Carruthers could be on his way out of the club with the Blades being close to sealing a deal for Charlton midfielder Ricky Holmes.

According to a report by online publication News Shopper, the Blades are prepared to offload the former MK Dons midfielder to make room for Holmes, and could even offer him as a make weight as they look to complete the move for Holmes this week.

Carruthers has never quite settled into a first team slot at Bramall Lane despite playing a key role off the bench last term as United romped to League One success, and this season he has seen his chances become even more limited following United’s good form in the Championship.

Charlton manager Karl Robinson worked with Carruthers during their time together at MK Dons and is a known admirer of the midfielder. At League One level Carruthers has the ability to play week in week out, and while he won’t be a direct replacement, he could well soften the blow of losing the influential Holmes.
