Sheffield United have had a dream return to the Championship and sit third in the table heading into the international break.

However, probably the only Blades man this season hasn't gone to plan for is Ched Evans.

The striker made a summer move from Chesterfield to return to Bramall Lane, but has yet to find the net this season.

In fairness, most Evans' appearances have come off the bench and he is suffering with an ankle injury that he has been admirably playing with.

The 28-year old travelled with the squad on Saturday to Nottingham Forest but was told 90 minutes before kick-off that he was the one who wouldn't be in the squad.

Yet, his response to the disappointment delighted manager Chris Wilder.

He was going around, making sure those who were playing were ready and had everything they wanted. He was patting everyone on the back,” he told the Sheffield Star.

I looked at that and thought: 'You'll do for me son'. It was everything you could want.”

The striker crisis that prompted Evans to play through pain is easing, meaning the forward can now get the treatment needed over the international break as he looks to return to full fitness.

The Verdict

Football is a squad game today and every manager will want players they can trust, and players who fit into the team spirit.

Clearly, Ched Evans does that. He helped the team out by playing with an injury and supported the team when he would've been extremely upset from a personal perspective.

The togetherness and bond of the Blades squad seems to be a key reason for their early season success, something Chris Wilder deserves credit for.
