Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder led his newly promoted side to a respectable 10th place finish in the Championship last season, building on the previous year's title winning campaign in League One.

And now the Blades manager, tasked with adding new faces to his squad over the summer to ensure the Blades keep competing, has insisted that he will always treat the club's money 'as if it's his own' when it comes to splashing out on big fees for new players.

Speaking to the Sheffield Star, Wilder said he has strict criteria - including the personality of a player - when it comes to making new signings.

'There’s no point in ‘boom and bust’ because, in my opinion, that’s not the best way to bring long-term success. I’m a planner. All of us like to plan. Yes, you’ve got to take care of things in the short-term but we look at the medium and the long as well.' said Wilder.

The Blades were in with a shout of the top six for most of the season last term, and even sat top of the pile before Christmas, however, a late season collapse of sorts saw them fall short of the playoff places and leave the United fans disappointed.

Wilder, who has called for calm among his board and has recently signed a new deal, is expected to add new faces in the summer armed with fresh funds following the owner's resolution meeting.
