Sheffield United goalkeeper Jamal Blackman has declared that the Blades are ‘here to compete’, ahead of the Blades’ clash with Ipswich Town.

The Chelsea loanee has impressed this season for the newly promoted side, who lie in third place following the opening eleven games of the new campaign.

Conceding just ten goals thus far, Blackman has one of the best records in the division between the sticks, and his performances have inspired the south Yorkshire side to their wonderful early season position.

In an interview shared on the club's official Twitter page, Blackman said: “I think it’s helped so much us just being able to play our game and not think about all of the big names we’ve come up against and just play how we play.

Everyone’s working for each other, it’s a great team where everybody wants to win, and obviously that pushes everybody to work even harder.”

The Verdict

The Blades have been sensational so far in the second tier, and have shown signs of mounting a serious promotion push in their first season back at this level.

The signing of Blackman was a real coup for boss Chris Wilder, with the performances of the youngster whilst on loan at Wycombe Wanderers last season attracting the attentions of clubs from across the Football League.

There is a long way to go, and it will be very difficult for the Blades to achieve back-to-back promotions, but if Blackman can continue his fine form between the sticks, the club have a shot.
