According to Football Insider, Sheffield United have made a bid to sign Conor Coady from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Chris Wilder has continued to look for ways to strengthen his squad this summer, despite the Blades’ Sky Bet Championship season already starting.
United have began their first Championship campaign since 2011, and got off to the perfect start, beating a well-fancied Brentford side 1-0 at Bramall Lane.
Wilder has now made a move to bring Coady back to South Yorkshire, where he enjoyed a successful loan spell during the 2013/14 season.
During his time at Bramall Lane, the versatile 24-year-old made 50 appearances across all competitions, scoring six goals for the Blades.
Since then Coady has moved from Liverpool to Huddersfield Town, before making the switch to Molineux in the summer of 2015.
Coady has made 85 appearances for Wolves during his time at Molineux, featuring at full-back, in midfield and most recently as a central defender under new head-coach, Nuno Espirito Santo.
The 24-year-old has began the 2017/18 season as Wolves’ captain, playing as a central defender in a back-three and impressing in Wolves’ opening day victory over Middlesbrough.
Nuno opted to rest Coady for Wolves’ Carabao Cup tie with Yeovil Town, but it is likely he will return against Derby County next weekend.
This is an ambitious move by Wilder, who is looking to strengthen his squad, with the hope he can help the Blades establish themselves back in the second-tier after a long wait to return.
However, it is unlikely that they will be able to lure Coady away from Molineux, with the 24-year-old clearly key to Nuno’s plans at Wolves.
The way Coady and Wolves have started the season indicates that it could be an interesting year at Molineux, with a promotion push looking likely.
