Sheffield United are said to be rivalling Fulham to the potential signing of Croatian defender, Dario Zuparic according to the Daily Star.
The 27-year-old is currently with Croatian side, HNK Rijeka and has been impressive this season and he’ll be in good spirits after playing his part in their surprise cup final win over Dinamo Zagreb recently.
A fee in the region of £1.5m is being quoted for the defender, whose future seems as though it could be away from the Croatian top-flight.
Zuparic has made 30 appearances in total for HNK Rijeka this season and his impressive performances seemingly haven’t gone unnoticed.
The same report claims that Fulham were previously interested in signing Zuparic in January’s transfer window, although a move never materialised.
Sheffield United boss, Chris Wilder will be hoping that the offering of Premier League football being on the table, will tilt the race to sign the defender in their favour.
The Blades can’t afford to wait around to sign Zuparic though, with the transfer window closing on August 8th, so Wilder will be keen to have a settled squad as early as possible to adjust to life back in the top-flight.
He’s clearly got something about him.
Zuparic has played at a high level, and although it would be a gamble for either side to sign a player with no experience of playing in England, sometimes you have to take a risk.
If he can settle into life in England swiftly, then this could prove to be one of the signings of the season.
