Sheffield United co-owner Prince Abdullah Bin Mosa’ad Abdulaziz Al Saud is in talks to take complete control over the club, according to reports in The Yorkshire Evening Post.

The Prince became a 50% stakeholder in the club back in 2013 when the Blades were struggling in the third tier, but has now opted to present an offer to fellow owner Kevin McCabe to take full control of the south Yorkshire side.

The club released a statement confirming the Prince’s intention to buy out McCabe, stating: “His Royal Highness Prince Abdullah Bin Mosa’ad Abdulaziz Al Saud and Kevin McCabe are in discussions regarding the transfer of ownership and control of Sheffield United Football Club.

“The Prince and Kevin McCabe want to reassure everyone connected to the club that the current negotiations and transfer of ownership will have no impact on the club’s management and its staff.”

The Verdict

The Blades have progressed remarkably since the Prince arrived in south Yorkshire, and fans will watch with great interest how this deal develops.

The club have an opportunity to sneak into the play-offs this year under Chris Wilder, and should an unlikely second promotion be achieved by May, a Premier League campaign under the Prince’s full control will be very exciting indeed for fans.

It will be hoped that money will be made available to invest in the squad, and should Wilder be handed the opportunity to further improve his side in the summer, the Blades could become a real force to be reckoned with.
