Chris Wilder is keen on bringing Kieran Dowell back to Sheffield United as they prepare for life in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old midfielder, who is heading away with England's U21 side later this month, joined the Blades in January and played 16 games in the second half of the campaign to help the side to automatic promotion.

And, according to Sun journalist Alan Nixon, Dowell could be heading back to Bramall Lane from Everton, although it's not clear whether it will be on a permanent basis or another loan.

"SHEFF U. In talks to get Dowell back from EVERTON. Prefer a loan but it would mean their Prem limit is reached if Henderson comes back too."

As the reporter states, the Yorkshire side are only allowed two loans from fellow top-flight sides and it seems as though Dean Henderson will be one as he prepares to rejoin the club from Manchester United.

Either way, with Dowell unlikely to have a future at Goodison Park, a permanent deal is unlikely to be too much of an issue.

The Verdict

Even though he wasn't a guaranteed starter, Dowell played well for Sheffield United when he was given a chance and everyone connected to the club will appreciate the role he played in the promotion push.

It appears as though he won't feature under Marco Silva for the Toffee's so a return to the Blades would surely appeal to the player.

The only issue will be the type of deal and it's something the newly-promoted club will have to seriously consider as they may need to use those loans wisely.
