Sheffield United have played down the severity of the injuries picked up by Leon Clarke and Jamal Blackman last night, with Alan Knill stressing that neither seem to be serious.

Speaking to the Sheffield Star following last night’s clash with Reading, Knill delivered an update on Clarke and Blackman, who were both forced from the field at the Madejski Stadium.

The Bramall Lane assistant manager was also able to provide an update on David Brooks, who was absent with a back problem.

Knill said: “He’s (Brooks) still got that spasm.

“But we don’t think Leon and Jamal are too serious. That’s the first indications we’re getting anyway.”

Despite losing Clarke and Blackman in the 34th minute last night, Chris Wilder’s side stormed to a 3-1 victory over Reading, moving back into the Sky Bet Championship’s top-six.

Billy Sharp struck twice for the Blades, with Mark Duffy also on the scoresheet for Wilder’s side, with Omar Richards scoring Reading’s goal.

The Royals missed a glorious chance to pull level before Sharp’s second, however, with Simon Moore, Blackman’s replacement, saving a Leandro Bacuna penalty.

The Blades have now won three of their last four Championship fixtures, and will be looking to continue that impressive run of form this weekend, when they return to South Yorkshire to face a struggling Burton Albion.

The Verdict

Losing both Clarke and Blackman was a blow yesterday for Sheffield United, but Wilder will be delighted with how his side responded without the duo.

However, with a key run of fixtures coming up, and the Blades now in control in the race for the top-six, Wilder will want his side at full strength, so will be keeping his fingers crossed Clarke and Blackman aren’t out for an extended period.

There will be further frustration at Brooks’ absence, with the talented youngster’s latest setback depriving Wilder of another attacking option.
