Sheffield United striker David McGoldrick has insisted he needs to maintain his form or risk being out of the team.

Despite scoring three times in the last two games, summer signing McGoldrick spoke to the Sheffield Star following the Blades' win over Millwall yesterday and refused to rest on his laurels.

"I came here and I backed myself to get the move," McGoldrick, who joined United following a successful trial, said. "I'm playing and I'm scoring but I know, because there's Leon (Clarke) and Conor (Washington) sat there on the bench, that I've got to keep on doing it because otherwise they will come in."

"The bench here is really strong. You've only got to look at that fact someone as good as Ben Woodburn, with all the talent he's got, didn't even get on it here." added McGoldrick.

The former Ipswich man bagged himself a double yesterday to further enhance his reputation and standing within the Bramall Lane first XI, and he will be hoping for a continuation of that good form in the coming weeks.

However, his admission that the rest of the squad is watching on just shows what sort of spirit Blades manager Chris Wilder has instilled in the squad at Bramall Lane, and along with Billy Sharp, McGoldrick will be keen to ensure he remains first choice.
