Sheffield United striker Leon Clarke is attracting interest from across the Championship at this late stage of the transfer window, with a quartet of the Blades’ rivals plotting a move.

According to a report from HITC Sport, Clarke is attracting interest from Bristol City, Millwall, Wigan Athletic and Hull City, as the Blades’ Championship rivals move to offer the striker a route out of Bramall Lane.

Clarke has struggled for opportunities under Chris Wilder this season, managing just nine starts in his 24 appearances.

He’s still managed to return three goals and three assists, but finds himself behind David McGoldrick and Billy Sharp in the pecking order, whilst Gary Madine has recently been signed.

Last year Clarke was excellent for the Blades on their return to the second-tier, with the 33-year-old defying his critics to finish amongst the Championship’s top scorers.

In 39 Championship appearances, Clarke scored 19 goals and registered a further five assists, striking up an excellent partnership with Sharp.

Those goals weren’t enough to guide the Blades into the play-offs, though, with the South Yorkshire outfit falling short in their quest for back-to-back promotions.

The aim this year is to finish within the top-six, with Wilder’s side competing with the likes of Leeds, Norwich and West Brom to secure promotion.

The Verdict

Clarke has found his opportunities limited this season, which comes as a slight surprise given his form last season.

However, McGoldrick and Sharp have been excellent for the Blades, whilst Madine is another obstacle foe Clarke to now overcome.

With that in mind, a move to another Championship rival might be something the striker is open to, as he looks to extend his career at this level.
