Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder is set to reject interest from Sunderland and sign a new contract at the club, according to journalist Alan Biggs.

The Blades will reportedly agree an extension with the ex-Northampton boss in the coming days after winning League One with the club during his first season.

Sunderland set their sights on Wilder as their next managerial target after rejection from the likes of Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes.

He appears to have snubbed their interest and will press on with the job of retaining Sheffield United's Championship status. He already has two-years left on his deal, but agreeing a new deal would be a statement to any parties eyeing him up.

Wilder won League Two in extraordinary circumstances with Northampton Town in 2015/16 with the club under great financial restraint.

He then moved to the club he supports, Sheffield United, last summer, replacing Nigel Adkins, and stormed all the way to the League One title.

This means he's won League's One and Two in successive seasons, so it's easy to see why other clubs would indeed be interested.

Still, it seems as if he will be remaining at Bramall Lane.
