Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder praised the 'swagger' shown by his side in their 3-2 win against Preston North End at Bramall Lane on Saturday.

The Blades took a 2-0 but were pegged back by two goals in the last ten minutes by Alex Neil's side only for David McGoldrick to score an 87th-minute winner for the home side.

"I'm delighted and proud with the way we set up," Wilder told the BBC.

"It was never dull, but the players showed tremendous character to get themselves back up off the canvas.

"I'm delighted we got our noses in front and the swagger about us was good to see."

Billy Sharp gave the home side the lead just after the half-hour mark tapping home from close range to give Wilder's side a half-time lead.

Centre-back Chris Basham doubled the lead just six minutes into the second half, looping a header brilliantly into the top corner from an Oliver Norwood free-kick.

With ten minutes to go, the points looked safe, but within two minutes North End were back level, with Callum Robinson and Daniel Johnson scoring in the 80th and 82nd minute to level the scores.

But after some brilliant work from Enda Stevens, McGoldrick was hand to score a late winner for the home side, firing low into the bottom corner.

The verdict

Wilder is right to focus on the positives here.

Yes, it is never good to throw away a two-goal lead, but the spirit shown by the Blades is the sort of spirit needed from promotion candidates.

It bumps them back up into fourth place and leaves them in a great spot for a promotion push.
