Following David Brooks' move to Bournemouth over the weekend, Sheffield United could lose another player to the Premier League.

According to reliable journalist Alan Nixon, Brighton and Hove Albion are interested in Jack O'Connell.

The Seagulls could splash £5m or £6m on the centre-half, after growing frustrated in pursuit of Liam Moore.

Reading star Moore has been a top target for Brighton this summer, despite them having Shane Duffy, Lewis Dunk and new signing Leon Balogun in their ranks already.

But with Reading not willing to let Moore leave on the cheap, Brighton have turned their attention to O'Connell.

The 24-year-old joined Sheffield United from Brentford in 2016, following spells with Blackburn Rovers and Rochdale.

In his two seasons at Bramall Lane, O'Connell has played 98 times for the club and established himself as a regular at the back.

But now the 6ft 3in centre-half could be off again, despite having a contract until 2022.

The Blades could be blown out of the water if Brighton come in with a tempting higher wage for the former England under-19 man.

The Verdict

O'Connell has been rock solid at the back for Sheffield United and he is the only guaranteed name on the team-sheet in the back three.

It would be a massive blow for the Blades to lose him, especially as they already need to sign at least one new centre-back this summer to bolster their options.

But this is great news for Reading fans, who may well be able to keep Moore now after it looked increasingly likely that he would depart for the south coast.
