According to the Sheffield Telegraph, Chris Wilder and Sheffield United remain interested in re-signing Everton’s Phil Jagielka this summer, but have drawn up a list of more affordable targets they will look to sign, with the 34-year old seemingly too expensive.

The Blades have explored the possibility of brining Jagielka back to Bramall Lane this summer, ten years after he left South Yorkshire for Goodison Park - where he has gone on to establish himself as one of the Premier League’s most consistent performers.

With one-year remaining on his contract with Everton, and at 34, Jagielka’s time with the Toffees appears to be coming to an end, which has alerted Wilder, who is looking for reinforcements ahead of the Blades’ return to the Sky Bet Championship.

However, Jagielka’s £50k-a-week wages are proving to be a stumbling block in Wilder’s attempts to sign the defender, who will have to take a significant pay cut if he is to return to Bramall Lane.

Wilder has already been active in the summer transfer market, making four signings.

Ched Evans, Nathan Thomas, Enda Stevens and George Baldock have all been signed ahead of next season, with Wilder now targeting an experienced central-defender.
