Sheffield United are interested in signing Blackburn Rovers midfielder Joe Rothwell this summer, according to Lancashire Live.
Rothwell, who arrived from Oxford United in 2018, has been a key player for Rovers since his arrival from the Kassam Stadium, making 118 appearances for the club across all competitions.
The 26-year-old made 39 appearances in the Championship this season, recovering from a back problem and scoring three goals and chipping in with four assists from midfield.
Rothwell was set to be out of contract this summer, but Rovers announced via their retained list that they had activated a 12-month extension option.

But with his contract now set to expire next summer, Rovers may look to cash in this summer instead of potentially losing him for nothing in 2022.
According to Lancashire Live, Sheffield United are among the clubs interested in Rothwell amid uncertainty over his long-term future at Ewood Park.
The Blades are preparing for life back in the Championship after being relegated from the Premier League this term, but there is also uncertainty over the managerial situation at Bramall Lane.
I think this could be a good signing for Sheffield United.
Their current midfield options are good, but with John Lundstram likely to leave this summer, new signings are needed and Rothwell could be a perfect replacement.
He’s only 26 and is entering his prime years, and he has shown that he has an eye for a killer pass and can chip in with goal contributions from midfield.
He’s been a standout performer for Rovers in recent years and would be a top signing.
