According to the print version of today's Mirror (page 48) - Sheffield United are thinking about launching a bid for John Egan.

The Blades have had a good campaign so far this season but their last couple of games have been a bit more frustrating with them getting just the one point from two home games.

Even so, there is still plenty to shout about for the Blades at the moment with them looking like a side that is willing to take anyone on and out-work them.

For sure, though, they'll need to strengthen in the January window to boost their promotion hopes and that looks to be exactly what they are planning.

Indeed, according to the Mirror, the Blades are considering moving for the Brentford centre-half in the next window with the Championship star once again underlining his quality this season.

The Bees have turned around their form with Egan right at the centre of that and they'll be eager to keep a hold of him.

If the Blades are still challenging at the top and Brentford are still only mid-table, though, it is easy to see why he could be tempted to join the men from Bramall Lane.

The Verdict

This would be an interesting deal if it went through for the Blades.

They have a pretty settled defence with the likes of Chris Basham, Jack O'Connell and Cameron Carter-Vickers doing well this season.

Whether Egan would play or not, then, remains to be seen.
