According to the Sheffield Telegraph, Sheffield United are set to continue their pursuit of Southend United’s Ryan Leonard, with the player looking for a move away from Roots Hall this summer.

Leonard has been offered a new three-year deal by Southend, who are desperate to keep the 25-year old at the club ahead of their push for promotion in League One next season, but the player is keen to test himself in the Sky Bet Championship.

Both Sheffield United and Millwall, who are preparing for their respective returns to the Championship, have had bids rejected for the midfielder, despite Leonard having just 12-months remaining on his contract with Southend.

Chris Wilder’s Blades are now set to pursue a deal for Leonard, after learning of his eagerness to leave Roots Hall.

The Blades are preparing for their first appearance in the Championship since 2011, and Wilder has already made significant additions to his squad, with four new arrivals already this summer.

Ched Evans, Nathan Thomas and Enda Stevens were all brought to Bramall Lane last month, whilst MK Dons’ George Baldock joined the club earlier this week.

Wilder is keen to add Leonard to his squad this summer, after the midfielder enjoyed a fine 2016/17 campaign, making 48 appearances as Southend finished seventh in League One.
