Sheffield United have joined the race to sign Swansea City defender Joe Rodon, according to Yorkshire Live.

The defender has been a shining light for the Championship side and is getting better day by day, with the 22-year-old already making over 50 appearances for the club.

The Blades join a whole host of clubs interested in the acquisition of Rodon, with Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City also front-runners for his signature.

Chris Wilder may feel as though he needs to bolster his backline after defender Jack O'Connell was injured meaning they now miss one of their key players from the previous campaign.

Rodon has experience despite his age, and has already made his Wales debut with a place in the European Championship's squad an achievable target for the talented centre-half.

Sheffield United will do well to fend off Premier League competition, however what the club has achieved so far may be a pulling power in its own right.

The Verdict

It would be a very good signing for Sheffield United and once more show that they were on the right lines when it comes to building for the now but also for the future.

If Wilder managed to get a deal over the line it would show that they can fight some of the Premier League big boys when it comes to transfers and certainly cement their place in the market.

Rodon himself has a lot of talent and could go onto become a very big Premier League player in the near future, especially considering he will also be playing games at international level.
