Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Oliver Norwood is close to a move to Sheffield United.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, who is usually a reliable source on social media, the Blades are close to agreeing a loan move for the Northern Ireland international.

Norwood has been promoted to the Premier League twice in the last two seasons first with parent club Brighton before going up during a season-long loan with Fulham last year.

Chris Wilder is looking to add to his side during the loan window and having lost Lee Evans to Wigan on loan and Paul Coutts still recovering from injury, Norwood seems the perfect target to bring to Bramall Lane.

The 27-year-old managed five goals in 47 appearances as Fulham won the Championship play-off final.

Hull City and Leeds United were both interested in the midfielder during the transfer window but neither club were able to finalise a deal. Their loss is the Blades’ gain as they look set to seal the loan capture for the Brighton man.

United have suffered defeat in their opening two games of the season and failed to land any new signings on deadline day. They travel to QPR today hoping to get their first three points of the season on the board.
