Sheffield United edging closer to landing deal for creative attacking ace

Sheffield United are believed to be close to completing the signing of Charlton Athletic attacking midfielder Ricky Holmes, according to a report by Kent Live.

Holmes, who was the Addicks’ player of the season last year and worked with Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder during their time together at Northampton, was expected to complete his move to the Blades this weekend, with the report claiming some sources say the deal is done.

The creative attacker, who can play off the front of either side of an attacking formation, will add some much needed freshness to a Sheffield United team who are struggling to get wins on the board, with only one win from their last nine league games.

Holmes is being moved on by Charlton as they look to balance the books, although the fee for Holmes has yet to be disclosed.

He played a key part for Chris Wilder as he led Northampton to promotion a few seasons back and the Blades gaffer will be hoping for similar form when he eventually makes his Blades bow in the coming weeks.
