Sheffield United skipper Billy Sharp is set to sign a new contract with his boyhood club after a fine season so far.

The 33-year-old has been one of the outstanding players in the division and has 22 goals in 30 appearances, which has been pivotal to the Blades promotion charge.

Chris Wilder's men are currently second in the Championship and the ex-Leeds man is a key reason for that.

And, according to the Telegraph, he is set to be rewarded with a new two-and-a-half-year deal that will keep him at Bramall Lane until the summer of 2021.

The report states that negotiations have been ongoing for the past few weeks but a deal has now been reached between the player and the club and an announcement is expected tomorrow.

That will prolong Sharp's stay at the club, with the experienced striker enjoying his fourth successive season since re-signing back in 2015.

During that time, he has scored 86 league goals, which helped the team to the League One title and has now left them in the mix for promotion this season.

The Verdict

This is great news for Sheffield United and for Sharp, who thoroughly warrants this new contract.

His goal record over the past few years has been nothing short of incredible and he deserves so much credit for maintaining those high standards this season.

Now, the target will be to continue his great form over the final few months and if he manages to do so, he could be enjoying his final few years at the club in the Premier League, which must be his dream.
