Ricky Holmes looks set to sign a new deal with Charlton Athletic despite interest from Sheffield United.

Sheffield United had been pursuing Ricky Holmes for quite a while but Charlton Athletic are closing in on securing his services with a new deal, according to London News Online.

Charlton Athletic have offered him improved terms as they look to fend off interest from Championship new boys Sheffield United and keep their star man.

The South London Press have exclusively revealed that Ricky Holmes is on the brink of agreeing this new deal.

Ricky Holmes was voted Charlton Athletic's Player of the Year for 2016/17 as the Addicks finished in a disappointing 13th place in League One.

Chris Wilder was looking to reunite with the 30-year-old at Sheffield United; Wilder was Holmes' boss at Northampton until they both left in summer 2016.

The Blades have submitted a number of bids to Charlton but the South London outfit have resisted them thus far.

The former Barnet and Portsmouth winger has travelled with Charlton Athletic on their pre-season tour to Ireland as he prepares to stay at The Valley rather than make the step up to the Championship.

This will be a huge boost for Charlton Athletic as Ricky Holmes weighed in with thirteen goals from midfield last season in 34 league matches.

Holmes is now close to signing a new contract with improved terms.
