On-loan Sheffield United goalkeeper Jamal Blackman insists that his immediate focus is firmly on winning promotion with the Blades rather than his own future.

The stopper who is on a season-long loan from Chelsea is happy to wait until the end of the 2017/18 campaign to discuss his own future as he looks to play a key part in the Blades’ quest to finish inside the top six of the Championship.

Blackman was offered a long-term contract by the Premier League club prior to signing for the Blades on loan but boss Chris Wilder has hinted that a permanent deal could still be on the table for the custodian at the end of the season, should he be deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old custodian was named Man of the Match in Saturday’s goalless draw with Nottingham Forest and he insists that is focus is not focused on what might happen next season just yet.

He told the Sheffield Star: “We all try and play in the here and now and I am no different, especially after coming back from an injury.

“Trying to get back into the team has been my main focus, getting in the play-offs, and trying to do the best I can this season. Then we will see what happens after that.

The Blades are firmly in the hunt for back-to-back promotions after winning League One last season and Blackman believes Wilder’s men are finally poised for the last eight games.

He continued: “My main goal is reaching the play-offs. Trying to get us to where we want to be and I believe we have the qualities to do it.”
