Brentford striker Neal Maupay is a target for Sheffield United as Chris Wilder looks to add to his squad ahead of their Premier League campaign.

The Blades are back in the big time after a remarkable season last time out which saw them pip local rivals Leeds to the second automatic promotion spot.

However, with loan players Gary Madine and Scott Hogan returning to their parent clubs, reinforcements are needed and bringing in at least one striker will be a priority for Wilder in the coming

And, the Sheffield Star have revealed that Maupay is someone the Blades are looking at along with Oli McBurnie as they look to build a side to survive in the Premier League.

The Frenchman has established himself as one of the best strikers outside the top-flight and scored a very impressive 25 goals for the Bees last season.

Maupay has previously been linked with a move to Aston Villa, who are managed by his former boss Dean Smith, and they may provide the Blades with competition for the player after securing promotion themselves.

The Verdict

This would be a very good signing for the Blades as they clearly need more firepower and Maupay is a player who should be able to handle the step up.

As well as that, he is approaching his peak years and will be desperate to prove himself at a higher level.

Brentford will demand a big fee but it could be a shrewd investment for Sheffield United in the long term.
