Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has admitted that the club are considering offering Leon Clarke a new deal, according to The Sheffield Star.

Leon Clarke has been in red hot form this season with thirteen goals in the Championship so far this term, making him the division's top scorer.

And while the former Coventry City and Wolves striker is on course to win the golden boot, he has inevitably started to attract the interest of potential suitors.

Aston Villa are one club who are said to be looking at Clarke ahead of the upcoming January transfer window as Steve Bruce looks to add to his striker department due to injuries to Gabby Agbonlahor, Rushian Hepburn-Murphy, Scott Hogan and Jonathan Kodjia.

But the Blades want to keep the 32-year-old and could tempt him to stay by offering him fresh terms with the club.

Wilder said:

“We are looking at all our players, as we have done with people like Brooksy (David Brooks).

"These (contracts) aren’t to ward-off interest, they are to reward as well.

“They are to reward David for his performances, to reward John Fleck, Jack O’Connell and others as well.

"We will always look along the way and Leon definitely comes into that category.”

The Verdict

Leon Clarke's goal scoring exploits this season certainly warrant a new contract offer.

The veteran striker has had purple patches throughout his career so it is evident that there is a prolific goal scorer in there, sometimes waiting to be unleashed.

A new contract would be beneficial for the Blades in fending off the likes of Aston Villa and also for Clarke, who will undoubtedly be pleased with a pay rise at this stage in his career.
