Sheffield United have announced that young forward, Tyler Smith has left the club to join Bristol Rovers on loan for the season.

Smith has signed a two-year contract with the Blades before heading out on loan to the League One side, where he will be hoping to further his development in senior football.

He spent last season on loan with play-off chasing Doncaster Rovers, who were eventually beaten in their play-off semi-final against Charlton Athletic.

Smith made 14 appearances for Grant McCann's side, and scored twice as they finished inside the top six in League One.

His impressive showings haven't gone unnoticed, with the club rewarding him with a new contract, which he'll be keen to justify in the future.

It's highly unlikely that he would have been able to force his way into the Sheffield United first-team next season, as Chris Wilder will be preparing his side for life in the Premier League after winning promotion from the Championship last term.

Bristol Rovers finished 15th in League One last season, and Smith will be hoping to play his part as they look to finish inside the top-half of the league table.

The Verdict:

It's the best move for both parties.

Smith wasn't going to be anywhere near the Sheffield United starting XI anytime soon, but he could be part of Chris Wilder's plans for the future after signing a new deal at Bramall Lane.

If he can impress out on loan, then he could provide the Blades boss with a welcome selection headache for future seasons.
