Sheffield United are gearing up for one of the biggest games of the season tomorrow as the Steel City Derby takes place between them and Sheffield Wednesday.

It's been a good campaign so far this season for the Blades with them going along nicely and challenging for the top six all year.

In recent weeks form hasn't been as good, though, and so they'll be looking to kick-start things with a win over their arch rivals tomorrow night.

In the meantime, though, the Blades have confirmed on their official Twitter account that Ben Whiteman is leaving the club permanently for Doncaster Rovers:

Whiteman had been on loan with Rovers for the first half of this season and did a good job for them on a regular basis.

He had returned to the Blades earlier this month, though, suggesting perhaps he was going to play some Championship football.

That won't be happening this season at least now, though, with him returning to Donny on a permanent deal and it'll be interesting to see how he does over the rest of the campaign now his future is resolved.

A good player, it might not be long until another side higher up snaps him up.

The Verdict

Whiteman is a decent young player and could become a pretty decent force at a good level.

He's going to be at Doncaster for the foreseeable future, though, and that should allow him to develop with regular, senior game time.
