Sheffield United have reportedly agreed a deal to bring Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan to Bramall Lane, according to Football Insider

Hogan has been the subject of plenty of speculation this month but it now looks like he will be part of Chris Wilder's set-up for the closing stage of the season with the striker currently undergoing a medical.

The 26-year-old has struggled to find his feet since arriving at Villa Park for just under £10million in January 2017, scoring just ten goals in 61 appearances for the club.

There were hopes that he would be able to recapture the form he showed at Brentford when he was reunited with Dean Smith earlier this season but that has failed to materialise, with Hogan making just six appearances.

Wilder's side currently sit in third place in the Championship table but just three points behind Norwich City who occupy the final spot in the automatic promotion places.

Hogan will face tough competition on his arrival at Bramall Lane with Billy Sharp and David McGoldrick scoring 28 goals between them already this season.

The verdict

I have a very good feeling about this move.

Hogan has done very little to prove that this is a good signing for United to take, but neither had David McGoldrick.

The fact is that Chris Wilder has an unbelievable nack of picking up strikers seemingly past their peak, dusting them down and turning them into quality marksmen again.

If he can get him firing it could be enough to take the Blades up.
