Sheffield United are close to agreeing new terms with a couple of their existing players, as reported by journalist Andy Giddings.

The Blades are currently fourth in the table, ten points adrift of leaders Leeds United, but they'll now be focused on ensuring they finish inside the top six and entering the play-off lottery in May.

They'll do so by not only bringing in new faces, as everyone will this winter, but also by tying up deals for a couple of their existing players.

Manager Chris Wilder has stated that he's close to keeping one or two of his current squad at the club, saying: "We are hoping for good news on that in the next couple of weeks."

According to transfermrkt.co.uk, Billy Sharp, David McGoldrick, Paul Coutts and Conor Washington are all on deals due to expire this summer, and they could well be amongst those being offered extended terms.

In addition to that, Enda Stevens is out of contract in 2020, another key player in their current climb up the Championship table.

The Verdict

Whilst they're not naming the players they're close to keeping, it shouldn't be hard to work out which ones are key to their current aspirations.

Of the forwards, surely Billy Sharp will stay with the club, but if they're hoping to go to the next level, one would hope to see some better forwards complementing him in the coming weeks.
