Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has said that he is hopeful of completing a deal for Queens Park Rangers playmaker Luke Freeman later on today, after speaking to Sky Sports.

The Blades are yet to make a signing this summer after winning automatic promotion to the Premier League, finishing in 2nd spot behind champions Norwich City last term.

But it looks as if the Bramall Lane faithful may not have to wait much longer for their first signing of the summer to be revealed, with Queens Park Rangers midfielder Luke Freeman on the club's radar.

The 27-year-old enjoyed a hugely impressive campaign for the R's last season, scoring nine goals and producing eight assists in all competitions for the West London club.

But it looks as if the R's could be set to lose their star-man, with Wilder admitting that he is hopeful that a deal can be completed later on today.

He told Sky Sports News on Tuesday morning: "The clubs are pretty close to completing a deal for Luke - he is someone we have tracked and looked at for over 12 months and we tried to get last year.

"Hopefully we can get that one over the line, and hopefully Luke Freeman can become a Sheffield United player later on today."

QPR boss Mark Warburton has been active in the transfer window thus far, bringing in five new signings in the form of Liam Kelly, Lee Wallace, Yoann Barbet, Luke Amos and Matt Smith.

The Verdict

I think that Freeman would be a really good signing for Sheffield United as they embark on life back in the Premier League.

He can play either out wide or in behind the striker, which would see him become a perfect fit in the Blades' 3-4-1-2 formation.

Mark Duffy is approaching the latter stages of his career, so bringing in a younger, and all-round better player in Freeman is a very positive move by the Blades.
