Sheffield United are targeting a season-long loan move for 19-year-old Arsenal defender Isaac Hayden, according to FLW sources.

The versatile defender came through the Southend youth academy and then moved to the Gunners in 2013.

The 19-year-old has made one appearance for the Arsenal senior team during a League Cup game against West Bromwich Albion in 2013.

Hayden, who can also operate in a defensive midfield position, has been involved in the England youth setup, from under 16 level to under 19 level.

Sheffield United manager Nigel Clough is eager to replace the hole left by centre Back Harry Maguire, who signed for Hull City.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is willing to let the youngster go out on loan to amass some first-team experience.
