Chris Wilder's push for wins has helped them in the long run.

The Blades currently sit in sixth place, but have the fourth highest amount of wins in the league.

They also have 13 losses which is the joint-highest in the top half of the table as well as four draws which is the joint-lowest in the league.

The desire for wins may have cost them points in the short-term as they get caught out pushing for a goal rather than managing a game and settling for the draw with the 1-0 loss against Aston Villa or end up being on the wrong end of a high-scoring shootout such as the 5-4 loss to Fulham.

However, there are countless other games where they have built up a cushion to ensure victory such as the 2-1 win against QPR or come back after conceding an equaliser such as the 2-1 victory over Leeds.

City rivals Sheffield Wednesday provide a good contrast because they have lost the exact same amount of games, but they have struggled when it comes to winning.

The inability to kill off games has cost them as they have conceded last-minute goals due to being reactive, whereas, United's proactive style reduces the chance of this happening as they are able to take advantage of any opposition mistakes.

It's a simple difference in how to approach a game in regards to mentality, but it can have a huge effect.

One team has a chance of making the play-offs in their first season in the league while the other has to ensure they don't get relegated in what has been a disappointing season, so the results are clear to see.

Wilder's risk-taking is giving them the best possible chance of finishing the season with promotion to the Premier League.

Even if they fail in this regard, it's been a fantastic season for the fans with a style of football which has been exciting to watch.
