Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has warned his side not to underestimate Reading ahead of Saturday's fixture. The two clubs have had contrasting seasons so far, with the Royals down in 20th and Wilder's men up in third.

Despite their lowly position, Jaap Stam's side won 1-0 at Elland Road last time out and will be confident heading to Bramall Lane. Additionally, the Blades boss cited the terrific campaign the Berskhire club enjoyed last year, where they reached the play-off final, as proof of their capabilities. “We've got to recognise this is a team with big strengths. We are talking about a team that was a penalty kick away from getting into the Premier League,” he told the Yorkshire Post.

The Blades manager also commented on the unpredictability of the Championship, which is known for it's competitive nature. “I never looked at the fixture list last season and thought 'that's three points there, a point there' and so on. I won't be doing so this season either.” However, Wilder will justifiably be confident ahead of the game, as Sheffield United boast the best home record in the league with five wins from six.

The Verdict

Expectations will naturally adjust according to how the team are playing, but it's important the Blades players realise how tough each game can be – as I'm sure they will. Chris Wilder has acknowledged the test Reading pose and if the hosts aren't at it they will drop points. Fortunately, for fans of the Yorkshire club, there will be no concerns about the players mentality and attitude given what they've achieved since Wilder took charge.
