Sheffield United were dealt a minor injury blow with the news that George Baldock could potentially be out until the end of the month.

The ex-MK Dons defender had to be withdrawn 34 minutes into Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest with a calf injury.

However, the injury is not thought to be too serious, although the 24-year old is certain to miss the game against Ipswich at Bramall Lane after the international break.

Boss Chris Wilder was hopeful that would be the only game he'd miss though.

It's about how long we thought. He should be okay for Reading or Leeds,” the manager said when speaking to the Sheffield Star.

Baldock had missed the opening part of the season through injury and Wilder reckons the hectic schedule that saw the Blades play Sheffield Wednesday, Wolves and then Forest within six days was the reason for this setback.

George put a lot in to those. Emotionally and physically. Given that he played those games back to back rather than being eased back in, we probably expected this. It's just down to work-load.”

The Verdict

George Baldock had played very well since he got a place in the starting XI, defending reliably and providing a constant attacking threat.

He will be missed against Ipswich and potentially Reading the following week, but the Blades have a squad that can step up and have healthy competition in that role.

It's not a severe injury which will please all those at the club, but Wilder might consider rotating his players when the next succession of games come round to prevent this happening again.
