Sheffield United surrendered top spot in the Championship on Tuesday after they fell to a 1-0 loss at QPR with Wolves and Cardiff both winning.

The Blades lost to a freak goal and their agony was compounded when goalkeeper Jamal Blackman was stretchered off in the same incident.

The on-loan Chelsea man seemed to go up for a routine catch but caught Cameron Carter-Vickers which meant he landed awkwardly. This caused the ball to squirm free, giving Idrissa Sylla the easiest goal of his career. Blackman required several minutes of treatment before he was taken off the field and Chris Wilder told the Sheffield Star the keeper is now being assessed at his parent club.

It made sense, given where we were, for Jam to stay down there for Chelsea to have a look at him. There was no point in taking a risk. We'll see how he is.”

Blackman is said to have a back injury and looks certain to miss Saturday's game against Hull. Simon Moore, who came on at Loftus Road, will take his place and he will have a big job on his hands. The Blades have been solid all season, with Blackman a major part of that and Wilder will hope Moore can offer the same stability.

The Verdict

It really was an unfortunate injury for Jamal Blackman and hopefully the injury isn't too severe.

Blades fans will be gutted the keeper as he really has shone since arriving at Bramall Lane and perhaps didn't expect to make such an impact.

Simon Moore is a very able deputy but he will need to hit the ground running as Sheffield United look to reclaim top spot this weekend.
