Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder is confident that his side will be able to keep a duo of loan stars in the January transfer window, The Sheffield Star is reporting.

Chris Wilder is worried about the possibility of goalkeeper Jamal Blackman and defender Cameron Carter-Vickers heading back to their parent clubs in January.

Blackman is currently on loan from Chelsea and has been Wilder's go to man between the sticks after initially being brought in to cover injuries.

Meanwhile, Carter-Vickers could be recalled by Tottenham Hotspur as Mauricio Pochettino continues to adapt to life without defensive stalwart Toby Alderweireld.

But Wilder believes that both of the players will stay.

Wilder said: “I think both our loans will stay in January until the end of the season."

If the pair are sent back to their parent clubs, then Sheffield United could be left light in both the goalkeeper and the centre half departments.

However, the Sheffield United boss is determined to have a contingency plan drawn up.

Wilder added: “If they don’t, we look and make sure that we’re covered in both of those areas.

"But we’re confident they will be staying.

“There are breaks but that’s a natural contract situation.”

The Verdict

If Blackman is sent back then Moore will assume his place between the sticks while Carter-Vickers' departure can also be covered.

New additions might need to come in though to ensure they are not left light in case of injuries.

The Blades, still pushing for the play-off spots, cannot afford to have a light squad ahead of a busy run-in.
