Sheffield United boss issues Heckingbottom remarks that will put Leeds fans at ease

Sheffield United’s play-off hopes were given a significant boost on Saturday, as Chris Wilder’s men ran out 2-1 winners over Leeds United at Bramall Lane.

There was no fairy tale start to life under new boss Paul Heckingbottom for the visitors, with a Billy Sharp double ensuring Wilder’s men moved to within three points of sixth-placed Bristol City in the hunt for the final play-off spot.

Defeat leaves the Whites eight points from the top six with just fifteen games remaining, but Blades boss Wilder has insisted that his counterpart will prove to be a success at Elland Road.

“This was a difficult game for us,” he told The Yorkshire Post.

“I know Paul well and he has had an outstanding start to his managerial career.

“I am sure he will be a big success at Leeds, as he is a good football man. I know what he brings and what he will bring to the football club.”

The Verdict

A vital three points in the Blades’ push for a play-off spot, Wilder will be delighted his side was able to come through this fierce Yorkshire derby.

Not the start Paul Heckingbottom will have hoped for, the former Barnsley boss will draw positives from his side’s performance at Bramall Lane, which he will take into their must win clash with playoff rivals Bristol City on Sunday afternoon.

Victory over the Robins is guaranteed to move Leeds to within five points of the top six, a gap that can easily be closed at this unpredictable level of football.

Wilder’s words will be appreciated by his counterpart, but the hard works starts again today for Heckingbottom and his promotion chasing side.
