Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has confirmed that he has made an "ambitious" bid for a Championship midfielder.

According to The Sheffield Star, Sheffield United have submitted a bid for Wolverhampton Wanderers ace Conor Coady.

Conor Coady is a versatile player who plays predominantly as a defensive midfielder.

Also able to play further forward in central midfield, the former England under-20 international operated at right back on some occasions last season.

The 24-year-old previously had a loan stint at Sheffield United in the 2013/14 season, where he impressed with six goals in fifty appearances at Bramall Lane.

The former Liverpool academy product left the Reds after playing just two senior games for the club and has since played for Huddersfield Town and Wolves.

During his one season with Huddersfield, Coady played 48 games and then joined Wolves, where he has featured 84 times in two seasons.

Sheffield United now want the former loan star back at Bramall Lane to compete with the likes of John Fleck and John Lundstram for the central midfield spots.

The Blades are still looking to strengthen ahead of the transfer deadline.

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder said:

“Yes, we have put a bid in.

“What it is will remain between the two clubs.

"Yes, it’s ambitious.

"But we like to think we are an ambitious club.”

The Verdict

With over 150 senior appearances to his name already, Conor Coady has the perfect combination of youth and experience.

He is already familiar with Sheffield United and their fans so it could be a good move all round; the 24-year-old would certainly add quality to the midfield ranks.

However, Wolves will be reluctant to let their versatile player go so Sheffield United face a battle to complete this deal.
