Sheffield United battling Premier League duo and Rangers for striker signing

Sheffield United are among the clubs interested in signing young Partick Thistle striker Cameron Cooper, a report from The Scottish Sun has claimed.

The 16-year-old has yet to make his debut in senior football, but has impressed at youth level, where he has three caps and one goal for Scotland’s Under 17s.

Now it seems as though the teenager’s form has seen him attract plenty of attention from elsewhere, both north and south of the border.

In what year were Sheffield United formed?

According to this latest update, Sheffield United have been scouting Cooper, who has also impressed on trial with the Blades.

Premier League duo West Ham and Leicester are also said to be keeping tabs on the striker, having also previously had him on trial.

However, it is thought that it is Rangers who are now leading the race for the teenager, with the Scottish giants reportedly willing to offer Kai Kennedy and James Maxwell as makeweights in a deal.

The Verdict

It seems as though this may be a situation that gets away from Sheffield United, unfortunately for them.

The fact that Cooper has attracted attention and impressed while on trial for so many high profile clubs, feels like an indicator of the talent that he possesses.

That is something that could have made him a useful long term asset for the Blades, who will again be targeting promotion from the Championship next season.

But given Rangers will be able to offer Cooper the chance to compete for silverware and in European football, you can understand why Ibrox could be a more appealing destination for the teenager.
