Ruben Lameiras is attracting interest from Championship duo Sheffield United and Reading this summer, according to The Sun.

Plymouth Argyle midfielder Lameiras could be the subject of bids from the Championship pair as both look to add creativity to their ranks.

The former Tottenham Hotspur academy product joined Plymouth from Coventry City last summer and played 25 games in the league, scoring six times and grabbing an impressive tally of 11 assists.

Lameiras initially struggled to break into the first-team picture at Home Park but Derek Adams handed him his chance in the latter part of the season and his good form coincided with an upturn in the team's form as the Pilgrims surged towards the play-off spots, only to fall narrowly short.

The 23-year-old is a left-footed attacking midfielder who plays on either wing or as a number 10.

Sheffield United are tempted by Lameiras but Reading are set to make a bid for his services as they look to wrap this deal up quickly before the Blades swoop.

Plymouth will hold out for a figure of about £300,000 for the Portuguese play-maker, who has been interesting second tier sides.

The Verdict

There were two main problems with Lameiras while he was at Coventry: he was too lightweight for senior English football and he had no end product, despite being clearly talented on the ball.

But it looks like he has added some end product to his game at Plymouth, encouraging bids from the Championship as a result of his performances.

However, I do not believe it is worth the risk for either Sheffield United or Reading based on just half a season of decent performances.
