Dutch club FC Utrecht are the latest side to enter the race for Colchester United striker Mikael Mandron this summer, according to HITC Sport.

Mandron is a man in-demand this summer after impressing at Colchester last term.

Championship duo Millwall and Sheffield United are keen on the 6ft 3in forward, while League One side Portsmouth are also keeping their tabs on him.

Earlier in the summer window, Peterborough United had a transfer bid accepted by the U's for the Frenchman, but he decided to remain at the Essex club instead of moving to Posh.

Now, Utrecht are in the hunt for the former Sunderland academy product, who played three Premier League matches for the Black Cats.

The 23-year-old made a permanent move to non-league Eastleigh in 2016 and his tally of 15 goals in 33 games earned him a move back to the Football League with Wigan Athletic.

After playing just three times for the Latics, Mandron moved to Colchester for the 2017/18 season and netted 10 goals in 44 league matches, which has attracted attention from teams higher up the Football League.

But now Eredivisie outfit Utrecht want to bring the target man to Holland with Colchester reluctant to sell.

The Verdict

Mandron's goal record is not the most impressive but he offers more than that with his all-round game play.

The young forward is a physical threat and he holds the ball up well, bringing others into the game.

While he might not be ready for the Championship yet, he is a decent back-up option for Pompey but Colchester will not sell him on the cheap.
