Championship duo Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers are both wanting to sign Southampton striker Sam Gallagher, according to the Sun on Sunday (print edition, Sunday 15th July).

The young striker has flattered to decieve somewhat in his career so far, with Gallagher failing to become a regular score during loan spells with the likes of the MK Dons and most recently, Birmingham City.

However, this does not appear to have deterred either the Blades or Rovers, who are both keen on adding some more firepower to their squads next season.

United are looking to build on their impressive 10th place finish last season under Chris Wilder, while Blackburn are returning to the Championship after romping to promotion last season in their first season away from the top two divisions.

Gallagher would no doubt be keen on finding his feet and securing a permanent move away from Southampton, who appear increasingly unlikely to be able to offer him any sort of regular first team football.

The 22-year-old has already spent time with Blackburn two seasons ago, and might well be keen on a move back to Ewood Park. However, wages could well be a problem for both Rovers and the Blades, who may not be willing to meet his Premier League demands.

Blades fans, Rovers fans, what do you make of this? Would Gallagher be a good signing? Let us know in the comments!
