Sheffield United’s official website has confirmed that Cameron Carter-Vickers will spend the next week away from Bramall Lane, after the defender received an international call-up from America for the upcoming international break.

The Sky Bet Championship takes a break this weekend, with international football taking centre stage, as a number of Chris Wilder’s squad participate. David Brooks is away with Wales, whilst Daniel Lafferty will be hoping to help Northern Ireland to World Cup qualification.

It has now been announced that Carter-Vickers, 19, will spend time with the USA national team, who face Portugal a week today.

The defender is on-loan at Bramall Lane from Tottenham Hotspur, but has made a positive impression in South Yorkshire, featuring regularly in Wilder’s defensive unit of his preferred 3-5-2 formation. The 19-year-old has featured in nine of Sheffield United’s 16 Championship fixtures so far this season, helping Wilder’s side to second in the table heading into this month’s international break.

Carter-Vickers has featured in the Blades’ last eight Championship fixtures, as Wilder’s side have enjoyed a magnificent rise through the table. The 19-year-old played in last Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Hull City, where four Leon Clarke goals moved the Blades back into the top-two.

The Verdict

This proves just how impressive Carter-Vickers has been this season for the Blades, with the defender proving to be an experienced head on young shoulders in the heart of Wilder’s defence.

Carter-Vickers might not necessarily feature for the USA over the international break, but the experience will be good for the teenage defender.
